Student Leadership

A caring and encouraging team of upperclassmen is recruited and trained to mentor members of the incoming class.

Equipping

An entire system is provided to a small team of school staff who implement and coordinate the Pathfinder Student-to-Student Mentoring Program.  All the material to implement Pathfinder is provided, along with Internet access to online resources and curriculum.

Relationships

Mentors establish relationships with the younger students as they meet with them formally inside the classroom on a monthly basis, and informally outside of the classroom.  We recommend one mentor for every 5 students.

The Origins of Pathfinder

Pathfinder has been developed with schools' challenges in mind. We understand that many schools may not have the ability to contract a service that offers a VG Leadership facilitator. We believe that schools will benefit from implementing a proven system that creates an atmosphere where students are connected to each other and to their school.

We have created and designed Pathfinder as a means for school officials to take advantage of an established system that mobilizes their upperclassman to become the leaders and "trail guides" for the newest members of their student body as they begin the journey in their new school.
